Spring/Summer 2010 – Vanishing Elephant

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

Always a bit dapper, the Vanishing Elephant collection for Spring/Summer is a pleasing blend of tailored and smart with a relaxed “effortless cool” vibe. We love the campaign shots featured below. You can expect classic shirting and suiting, quirky knitwear, and chinos. We love the floral boardshorts and the denim shirting, and of course the footwear!

RAFW – Day #2 & #3

Thursday, May 6th, 2010
Tuesday for me was a day full of back to back appointments which didn’t leave much time for shows. I saw the summer ranges for Something Else, This Is Genevieve, Uscari, Karen Walker, Who Am Eye and Jamie Fame. I loved each range in it’s own way and am dreading narrowing down my choices to place orders! I then finished off the day with the Nicola Finetti show, which was full of fabulous dresses and some cute little jackets. I didn’t make the Alex Perry show, but by the sounds of it the rest of Sydney did and it sounds like it was quite a show.

Wednesday was jam packed with a lot more appointments, all running late thanks to the fact that every show was behind schedule all day long. I started off the morning with the Therese Rawsthorne show held offsite at the Australian Technology Park. The setting was effective with a massive big circle of chairs set around an empty warehouse. We even got little cups of muesli, yoghurt and rhubarb to ensure the fashionable people were getting their breakfast. The clothing was drapey, muted tones (with a splash of red) and looked easy to wear. I was a little distracted by some of the models wearing really cool nude platform sandals with silver “anklet” features. Not sure who they were by. Then it was a quick trip back on site for Kate Sylvester. I was really impressed with this show. I loved the quirky but girly style, and it was refreshing to see a bit of a different colour palette to the prolific nude and black combinations, with some mint green and splashes of red. There were cute checked peter pan collars which I am not sure will form part of the range or were just a stylists touch for the show.

Then it was time for me to check out the summer ranges for Beat Poet, Dr. Denim, Gram footwear, Chronicles of Never, Black Noise White Rain, and Limedrop. A lot more exciting things on their way! I missed the group show which I was really keen to see as it finally included some menswear, but got along in the evening to see Kontantina Mittas, which was dramatic evening type wear. The highlight of the whole day was definitely the Romance Was Born show. Set in a gothic hall at Sydney University, the whole room was set up to resemble a prehistoric jungle with incense burning down the runway that was lined with dirt. The anticipation was built by an obscenely late start, but finished in a standing ovation. The collection of “Renaissance Dinosaur” was extravagant, theatrical, and crowd pleasing. Whilst a lot of the pieces might be hard to wear for some, the over the top creative styling makes it harder to imagine the lowly person wearing, but there were some fantastic pieces that would certainly prove wearable to the right occasion.

RAFW – Day #1

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

So this year Pitbull Mansion is getting the inside look at fashion week, and after landing in Sydney yesterday and checking out the fancy pad in Circular Quay it was time to get along to some shows.

First up was the Womens Ready to Wear Group show. Featuring Uscari, Story By Tang, Carly Hunter and Guanabana. We are excited to announce we will be stocking Perth label Story By Tang this summer, as she has some fabulous dresses! Uscari impressed us also.

Later that afternoon it was on to the Bassike show. This was a great show, and topped off by the fact that a few front rowers got a bit of a surprise when their bench collapsed (holding a few key magazine personnel). Lots of the expected jersey pieces and some light weight knitwear that would make great layering pieces, and jailbird black and white stripes.

For the evening it was off site to go see one of our favourites from kiwi land… Stolen Girlfriends Club. Heading out to an industrial warehouse was worth the effort of the fight for taxis at the end, as the show didn’t disappoint.

Illionaire AW10 – Oblivious

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

The guys from Illionaire have done it again… a hot little capsule range of stunning dresses for the girls, and some unique items for the guys. Illionaire have been getting their fair share of press lately and we can see why with some of the pieces shown below. The digital silk prints that they are known for make the All the Fuss Frock a statement dress, and we are loving the cutout details of the On the Avenue Frock. Womens range is due into store soon and available for pre-order, with Mens range dropping later in the season. For the guys we are loving the double breasted blue shirt and the leather jacket is hot!

We have started getting the first of Beat Poet’s new winter collection in store, and we just had to share these beautiful images from their campaign shoot from photographer Nigel Lough. As per usual the guys have included exquisite tailoring, smart shirting, warm coats, and great accessories. All set against some an amazing urban landscape.

The Cassette Society AW10 – Why Can’t I Be You?

Friday, February 19th, 2010

The upcoming collection from The Cassette Society has us living in an era when Madonna was “Desperately Seeking Susan”! It has the right mix of punk and goth while keeping an on trend and light hearted feel. There are touches of lace, stripes, zips, safety pins, velvet and floral prints. We are loving a lot from this collection, but special mention goes to the velvet dress with structured shoulders which will give you a look straight off the runway without the price tag! And what’s not to love about the rock and roll knit?!
